Mozart Meets the Tango

April 24, 2016 @ 10:00 am

Mozart Meets the Tango

I Virtuosi de Lancaster will present a brilliant program- capturing the elegance of Mozart and the passion and energy of Tango king –Astor Piazzolla. The presentation is by a group of virtuosi musicians from the Lancaster Symphony, coupled with video’s from Wilkum Studios.

On April 24, Tellus360 will present a remarkable event that ties classical composer Mozart with Tango composer Piazzolla. The connection? – Astor Piazzolla idolized Mozart for his clarity of line and transparency of harmony. The program will open with Lancaster’s own- Janine Thomas, Clarinetist- performing one of Mozart’s last works: the Quintet for Clarinet and string quartet. Astor Piazzolla from Argentina composed music attempting to capture the eternal struggle between man and woman- passion and energy, but tried to approach the music with transparency. “Oblivion”, one of his later works was composed to capture the disappearance of political foes of Juan Peron. The work will feature Oboist Jeff O’Donnell.

The string quintet will spotlight Gail Hernandez, Nina Veiru, Petula Perdikis, Sara Male and Brent Edmonson.

Don’t miss this event! We do not want to hear “I heard it was a great concert”- We want as many people as tellus 360 holds to experience this wonderful event with narration by Lancaster Symphony Music Director-Stephen Gunzenhauser
