Time Sawyer w/ Mike McMonagle at Tellus360
June 8, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Charlotte, NC’s Time Sawyer is interested in “real people and real songs” and that’s just what the listener finds in their music – a sense of realness. Time Sawyer blends a grassroots feel with heart-felt lyrics to put on a high-energy, entertaining show.
The folk rock band’s name reflects the pull between the past and the future. The character Tom Sawyer evokes the rural background and love of home that the four band members, who all hail from the rolling foothills of Elkin, North Carolina, share. Time is a muse for songwriting; it’s the thread that runs through life, bringing new experiences, giving us a sense of urgency, while still connecting us with our past.
Most Recently, Time Sawyer has released their 5th studio album in 4 years to an overwhelming amount of positive feedback. The band has also been a part of many of the great music festivals in the Southeast and had a great tour of the Pacific Northwest last summer sponsored by legendary NC soft-drink , Cheerwine.
Time Sawyer was in the headlines in 2015, for being the top 5 must-see shows in Knoxville, TN. They’ve played all over the country – selling out multiple shows in their home state of North Carolina. For the second year in a row Time Sawyer was part of the lineup for the Americana/roots festival, Merlefest; and were featured in this years “Artists on the rise” category at Virginia’s own, Floydfest.
The first chord Mike McMonagle ever strummed was an E minor. He still plays that very same chord, along with others, to craft an array of ditties ranging from traditional folk and roots-rock-n-roll. Born, raised and currently residing in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, he uses his songcraft as a modest attempt at making good on his existence in this world.
